A friend and I have had a decades- long dialog about intentionality and whether humans have any. Imaginary beings abound in human language, especially if there's a buck to be made. His assessment is basically, "not". I think the key lies in understanding groups of humans and how they build real intentions organized into systems or co-ops of a few brains to overcome our known susceptibility to instincts(lizard brain). Too many in a group, and charisma allows a predatory person or method to single people out into targets (customers, soldiers, employees, fanatics (fans). Humans still have the ability to be cooperative and disciplined, but the markets are so full of treats and distractions that there's no time or attention available to the basic useful human being. It's all stolen before breakfast. Executive function is tiny compared to the rest of the brain. It doesn't stand a chance alone.
