A lot of the points could be understood if we accept that conscious thought is an emergent phenomenon rather than something directly 'evolved'. In other words, it's a useful bug, not a feature, of an oversized brain blob of wiring.

Getting hit by lightning can synchronize parts of the brain and enhance what is allowed to emerge as conscious modeling/awareness.

It takes most of the brain randomly interconnecting to enable the 10% of our usual habitual behaviors (not necessarily our intentionality/agency, which I put at about 1% on a good day).

The vast majority of civilized human behavior is instinctive, habitual or coerced by systems that exploit our lizard responses to stimuli without our knowing it, especially by bullies (we can't instinctively tell the difference between bullying and leadership).

Education systems provide us with more information and habits that make us more exploitable by civilized systems. Humans were the first domesticated animal, after all.
