Humanity adds one thing that the universe doesn't have before homo sapiens rapiens: the ability to choose a particular way of acting in a place.
I think the Garden story is actually a cover-up. A young couple was tasked with taking care of the tribe's garden while everyone was somewhere else (The annual visit to the ritual at Stonehenge?), and they got distracted and wandered off. The garden died, and they made up the story about God kicking them out to cover up their mistake. The lesson is that if you want to have a garden, you have to take care of it, but instead, the marketers turned it into a sales pitch for being afraid of imaginary beings.
