Actually, we feed it more when buying products: the rich get richer because we buy their stuff and work for them. They use cash register receipts to justify everything they do when they go to sleep at night.

It’s all in the marketing (and the tax lobbying for markets), and it’s all marketing.

That said, I also think intentionality has less to do with human behavior than conditioning. Most people don’t really think at all. The system doesn’t allow time for it.
