All of the decisions in a market economy are made at the checkouts to demand cheap crap regardless of the damage as long as the customer who's always "right" keeps working and buying anything at all according to the coercion of the Invisible Hand Job's theft of attention, time and common sense. The richest people during the gold rush were the scheming traders selling picks and shovels for the price of a lifetime of farming. Nothing has changed.
