Any system needs a feedback mechanism to moderate the positive feedback loops and opportunists (bullies, bankers, capitalists). I submit that with UBI, the overhead costs of civilization that are still necessary (including good health, education, world maintenance, and risk management, as well as UBI itself) need to come from VAT on all purchases.

In the immediate future, this can be accomplished by rewriting HR25 (the FairTax) so that Democrats can embrace it as UBI and anti-corruption, and Republicans can embrace it as simpler government. The usual political smoke and mirrors won't work because it eliminates both parties' major tools of pandering to the rich via line items of the income tax code and pandering to the poor with promises of programs.

The opposite of unfettered capitalism is sales tax. People need to be paid to be useful to places, and they need to know true costs at the decision point: the checkout.

That's the only voting that matters in a market society. Activists keep trying to eliminate markets but markets work. It's greed and power that overpower individual choices, though. To rein those in quickly, they have to be made visible to everyone.
