As an innovator, early adopter, prototype engineer and laggard, I think your characterization of laggards may be close, but it might be more of a matter that laggards are simply skeptical of marketing, not technology. The problem with the rate of change is the waste of resources going into redundant devices, factories and marketing. I think more people have a sense of the dangers of resource waste than they are consciously aware of, and the worship of useless innovation is exaggerated for profit by less than moral propaganda. The human brain evolved to be useful, and let’s face it: most of the “innovative” technology around us is not contributing to our real needs. Don’t confuse innovation with suicidally unfettered consumptionism.
