As Jay Greathouse pointed out with Le Bon's work, the "collective unconscious" is powerful. I often repeat the mantra, "It's all in the marketing, and it's ALL marketing.", and when you step back a moment and realize that's what religion is (selling a product that never has to be delivered or proved), then we come to the core problem (Evil: an action based on an unquestioned belief) of the unconsciousness of civilization itself. Humans built cities to isolate ourselves from the reality of Nature and other people. Salesmanship is all about setting up a fantasy and then using that fantasy to extract something of value (in the case of Trump: loyalty and mindless action/chaos for profit). As a tool of a massive marketer-religion (Fox exploits Trump to sell beer, trucks and prescription drugs), Trump convinced himself (and far too many others) that he is Pope and Mar a Lago is the Vatican.
The corporations and CEOs supporting him are in the collective unconsciousness that is The Invisible Hand Job, where all choices are inhumanly made by mathematics in spreadsheets, and banks can beat money out of anyone with no repercussions ("too big to fail"), especially naive kids convinced by unconscious parents that they have to go to college to 'compete'.
To quote George Carlin, "THEY don't give a FUCK about YOU!"
