As my bumper sticker said in the '80s, "Shit Happens, Then You Die".

Most of the stuff that we get caught up in individually happens because we are perpetually avoiding the other shit we would get caught up in. Randomness determines who gets caught and who gets to run. Some people are very good at sticking around or playing the particular game that their random birth signed them up for. Some of us just don't have that gland that conforms to 'normal'. We might have to clean a lot of it off ourselves, but it's the normal people who end up asking, "How do you know all this stuff?"

Learning to run away from trouble is both a survival instinct and experience with the things that teach us to run away (usually involving people).
