As with many efficiency advancements, the cheap cost of running LEDs has also encouraged more lights where they are not needed, or where they are used for marketing purposes (worse than not needed). Outdoor lighting has gotten ridiculous in the US, and the animated, high power LED signs have proliferated at roadsides, causing distractions and crashes.

Diurnal lives might help, if we could turn off the advertising that keeps people awake for no purpose.
