Carbon isn’t the problem. Consumerism is. Take carbon out of the equation with a tax or system, and people will just find other ways to power our extractive mindset to destroy the ecosystem. Our economic philosophy of the Invisible Hand Job is backward. The Earth is not here for our use. We are here as guests with responsibility to assist in the ecology. Humans don’t even put their own manure on the land anymore, let alone contribute to the broader complexities of the ecosystem.
We can play around with CO2 for more entertainment for a while, but unless we reverse our flow of resources back to the planet, it’s just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We are sinking because our species chews holes in the hull, not because we don’t do it fast enough or with the right kind of bite.
