Civilization itself isolates humans from the natural environment that spawned us. Most loving relationships involve a quid pro quo, but competitive consumptionism forces us to be extractors, even as its specialization and individuation allows more time to create and see ourselves and the universe. Building contributory existence from extractive competition is antithetical to aristocracy and profits/prophets leading us away from the savage Nature toward promised fantasyland.
