Consciousness seems to be a subset of usefulness. Will conscious robots be more useful to their place than humans are? ..'cause the net usefulness of humans to their planet is in the red on Nature's balance sheet right now.

The AI researchers are training their creations based on the human model. I'm not sure that's such a great idea for a new species that has to find purpose and sustainability for its own.

It's not like humans are even trying.
