Americans want to buy a life instead of living one because it's artificially cheaper to do so. The politicians and educational institutions support this system with trade and tax policies favoring those making money with this traditional system of exploitation and perpetual growth ('job' creators instead of usefulness creators).
To call for real change, we are calling for humanity to reverse its entire concept of work, money and economics to become contributors to the planet rather than consumers of it.
Green and other parties don't get it, either. They always seek to preserve, rather than to reverse, because abandoning Anthropocentrism is political suicide.
It's why we'll not see the changes we need before environmental collapse and political upheavals that will accompany that decline.
