Dominance-based evolution is why humans have chosen to not know the difference between leaders and bullies. Both yield results, but bullies yield results faster. When there is no perceived long-term return benefit (climate change effects will kill everyone's structural systems within 10 years at the rate we are going), leaders with long-term generous behaviors don't stand a chance in the immediate cycles of trying to survive collapse. Local community builders and enclaves will build fences and walls, labeling themselves as targets. Open systems will just die off from depletion and starvation.

"You die, she dies, everybody dies."

Despair is sooo 20th Century. Denial is the theme du jour, Bargaining is a reality show, and Acceptance is still a ways off.
