Evil: an action taken based on an unquestioned belief.

Good: a thing that contributes more usefulness to its future and environment than it consumes.

Good and "evil" are not opposites. Good and bad may be, but there's also alot of random and neutral things that happen in the universe. Far too much discussion of Evil ends up in the circular reasoning of religions where locking people into a false dichotomy perpetuates the omnipotent "Answer Man" sales pitch franchises. It was a nice plan as long as the prophiteers held to systems of Noblesse Oblige for the good of all, but modern technology's destructive consumption overtook the evolution of mores, especially in the liberal arts. Quiet contemplation just didn't keep up with the Meanifest Destiny arms race.
