Evolution doesn't really care that humans are conscious. We haven't proven yet whether our consciousness is a feature or a bug, and the lack of proper intentionality as a species points to the latter: where we are cunning enough to self-destruct with or without an AI, and have already taken a good portion of Nature's good works with us.
