Food for thought. If we are alone as the only intelligent species, then we have some responsibility to Life itself to expand its anti-entropic usefulness to other systems as soon as we can. That means we will need all available resources to do so and to preserve and protect Earth’s living systems. If we are not alone, the same still applies if other life might come and contaminate our biosphere.
Either way, there is no logical reason to have competing ways of burning resources against those ends, against nature, and against each other in worship of the Invisible Hand of 'free market economics’ among the ignorant consumptionists.
