George Monbiot said, “Crying “Overpopulation!” is another way of shifting the blame from the rich to the poor.” Population wouldn’t be an issue of people were useful to the planet’s resources (nurturing, putting labors into improvements of the land, mitigating erosion/floods, balancing species according to supporting environments), but our idea of anthropocentric egoism sets us toward the goal of ever-accelerating extraction rates and uselessness. If Earth was a corporation, it would have 8 billion employees demanding a living but only showing up to steal stuff and having leadership telling them they don’t do it fast enough.
