It's all in the marketing, and the only votes that are counted are the ones at the checkouts flowing to K Street and Wall Street. There is the predicament of carbon emissions, the predicament of consumptionism and the predicament of profit-based information production/delivery.

As we travel whatever change path our own situation allows, the bottom line will be whether our species contributes more to its places than it consumes or destroys.
Competition is not going to establish merit when there is nothing left to win.
Fanatical competition over competing fanaticisms is no way to go through life. It's very profitable for the ownership class; until the guillotines come out.
