How 'bad' is typically based on available resources for new growth after collapse. Besides all of the production efficiencies of technology being used to extract those resources just to tread water now, we are facing resource demands to rebuild constantly from ('1000 year') disasters. Insurance retreats from those areas are going to kill demand as well as disposable spending.

I can see the Fred Sanford strategy becoming more popular: buy a scrapyard and a welder. Either that or stock up on power transistors for the robot overlords.

The Information Economy just isn't.
