Human: an ape that builds a model of the universe inside its brain, and upon physical maturity, moves a model of its self inside that model, avoiding reality at all costs.

The human brain has a tiny part that operates Executive Function (reason and logic implementation). Most of the rest is instinct and emotion. This isn’t a bad thing, as long as we work as groups to combine our executive functions and overcome our individual impulses. That’s why the Rule of Law only works when people are habitualized by peers and family to follow rules instead of chasing every desire.

Marketers have known this since Bernays. That’s why they sell “Rugged Individualism” and “Just Do It” and “Follow your heart” slogans.

Science gives us tools that can help us be useful to our world, if we work together to use them. It’s very difficult when our primary education system (advertising) does just the opposite.

Is it any wonder people are confused and anxious?
