Humans are only rationally bound to their actions when part of a group. Our 'lizard brain' functions are more powerful than our individual pre-frontal executive function (making intentional choices), so humans are only really fully functional when they can combine executive functions to overcome instincts. (The whole power of therapy is in adding a person to the equation). Market economics is all based on getting people isolated (divide and conquer) so that we are helpless to their coercive tactics.

They know it, too. It isn't like our sugar addictions are happenstance, or the violence from kids with guns is random insanity: they want us to compete and hate each other, resenting everything so that we buy more stuff.

The point of a religion is to create a 'pod' of people that hate everyone outside the pod's version of reality (exclusion and competition, not cooperation like they claim).

Marketing has been going on a lot longer than just consumerism.

Unless the system of Systems based on the competitive mean Mean collapses, we don't stand a chance, and even if it does, it's a slim chance.
