I agree that knowing and moderating our animal nature makes the world better.
Unfortunately, most humans don’t see past the anthropocentric attitude. Their “honoring” nature makes for a self-indulgent picture where there isn’t a natural universe unless humans and their multitude of petty gods make it important.
Most people don’t even understand that the point to their favorite sport is to practice finding our “sting” and then to follow rules that keep it in check. Wars are for winning, games are for improving. Knowing the difference is key for survival. We can’t win a war with nature, but useful competition is more about cooperation within the rules than fighting to extinction. The artificial environment of civilization is of course a game, but nature probably thinks we are at war with it and our future. The future writes the rules, not the past.
