I bought a bunch of broken panels for a meager price locally. Most are still only good for 10% of design power. I can use them for trickle charging stuff, but will probably just figure out how to remove the panels from the aluminum frames and then use the aluminum for something. Disposing of the panels with the aluminum frames seems to be ridiculous to me, but that’s what happens. A box of broken glass doesn’t seem so bad to throw away, but yes, I do wish someone would figure out how to disassemble these things, or come up with a better design that can be disassembled at end of life or when damaged (hail, accidents, etc).
Epoxy glue and plastic are our enemies, people.
With the climate and weather getting more volatile, I expect there’s going to be a lot of hail damage that contemporary panels aren’t able to handle. Shutters will be the next accessory installation.
Oh…and WHY does anybody still install shingles? Steel roofs are 100% recyclable, and last as long as the solar panels.
