I don't oppose technology solutions because people need to degrow their lives. I oppose the uselessness of the current waste-based state of lives, sure, but better technology and awareness is important to understanding that much of our energy use is only in place to support the profits of wasteful energy use, not for sensible useful activities that are necessary.
The battery discussion is important to informing people about what "power" actually means, what is necessary and what isn't.
A good example is a standard lithium battery cell. It can be used as part of a grid backup, a Tesla car, or a plain flashlight. When someone bitches about not being able to turn on a light or use a computer at night, just tell them to buy a rechargeable flashlight and a laptop.
