I suspect you’ve been tricked by your own confirmation bias and his sarcasm. You are no different than most people. Meanwhile, you’ve got the right idea about pocketbooks, but you need to realize that the opposite of capitalism is not socialism: it’s sales taxes. All of capitalism’s exploitation begins at the purchase point, and people need to know how much it really costs to buy produced lives instead of building and growing and living their own lives. Political Socialism will never provide that choice or the opportunities that markets do. The key is to reverse the tools of markets (money, credit, meritocrocy) toward the bottom of the resource/needs pyramid, rather than extraction and monetization of artificially cheapened desires (always low prices, cashflow, hero worship).
