I think each species persists only if it is more useful than consumptive to its environment (net usefulness). Human economics is exactly backward from that perspective. Therein lies the rub and the root of our inability to make sense of our “purpose” in an economic perspective. The value of human labors is flowing away from the environment and going stagnant or wastefully consumed in the ”rising economic tide” that raises all boats but floods the farms.
