I think of the minimum wage as a minimum level of human decency, based on what the society thinks a human being’s time is good for, or what their time should be worth to stay home and raise a child or grow food. Unfortunately, we have a society that makes decisions on the ability to exploit the competition between people, regardless of the negative effects. We are quickly reaching a point where all needs will be met by automated means, and the masses of workers will be redundant. That means we need to start considering other options for usefulness of people, unrelated to wages.
