I think the missed opportunity here is in showing that the Republican party is and always has been in control of their tools while their supposedly "rogue" candidates have made drug deals (Iran Contra), hired mean judges, taken over state governments, overthrown democracies, abused human rights, cut education programs(replaced with advertising), allowed all manner of dirty tricks (Nixon, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Dulles), failed at diplomacy and sold government to the lowest bidders for some supposed macho ego trip they call "conservatism" that does anything but conserve. Trump is in front of the cameras all the time because his antics sell beer, trucks and guns to people who are encouraged to be bullies. That's the whole goal of the Republican party. They don't really give a shit about abortion, human rights, liberal thinking or 'big gub'mint' per se: what they(and the big money Dem supporters) care about is that those things interfere with the oligarchs' profits(see "neocons"). Civilization (city-based society) itself (sorry, urban liberals) is a feudalist extraction scheme that is guaranteed to profit a few winners while turning the environment and people close to it) to shit. Republicans have driven the profit train of civilization (corporations) and Democrats have gone along for the ride, kicking and screaming about it, but never actually wanting to stop the Meanifest Destiny engine (literally murderous corporate profits: especially banks(see "Goldman Sachs Cabinet"), drugs and oil). Nothing has changed since Teapot Dome: they're all in on the corruption. Trump takes the heat off everyone else involved so they can keep the schemes afloat.
