I think the problem with(and benefit of) guns is that they work. Unlike most people's Executive Function that is confused and disabled by fanatical competicism over competing fanaticisms.

When people cooperate (with or without guns), great good and great evil can be accomplished.

Our biggest problem is that guns work better than our brains (not just in speed). I know which guns I can rely on in a pinch. I don't know which people I can.

This is why we keep competing and comparing them both: because it's profitable to do so and the alternative is eschewed by profiteers who control perceptions.
