I understand your viewpoint. I’ve got 20 more years of experience with it, though. People have to lose hope or they maintain their status quo bias.
The problem isn’t simply fossil fuels. If it wasn’t for climate change and oil prices, we would have consumed or polluted all of the oceans with plastic and poisons already (imagine if energy was free starting in the 40s…Rachael Carson wouldn’t have survived and the EPA would not have happened).
People need feedback at the only decision point that counts: the checkouts.
The opposite of unfettered capitalism is a sales tax-UBI combo, not socialism.
It’s our only real hope is to make it harder to shop than to stop.
