I watched an old movie the other day, “Raise the Titanic!” based on a Clive Cussler book. Our protagonist, Dirk Pitt, is asked, “Dirk! I haven’t seen you in so long! You were going to save the world! What happened?”

“I was outnumbered.”

Yup. That pretty much sums it up. The world doesn’t want to be saved. It doesn’t want shining cities on the hills. It wants to give tax breaks to dirty factories in the bottom of smog-filled valleys on polluted rivers as long as it can buy shitty products with fancy names and eat Cheez Doodles and corn syrup. Just as long as the end of the world is cheap, people will be happy.

Fuckitol.
