I'll submit that it already has. The government has stopped counting those things that are useful to places and only count 'inflation' on things that are consumable.

The cost of farm tools, trucks and land have inflated.

The money supply has inflated. Deficit-based government wants inflation so that the money they pay loans back with is cheaper than the money they borrowed.

The ballooning money supply represents resources borrowed from at least 5 imaginary planets; but it's OK: that's for the magical robot Future to worry about...
