"In a society based on competition, you inevitably get fewer and fewer winners and more and more losers." -Wendell Berry

The fundamental problem with most of civilization itself is that it isolates humans from the environment that spawned us; setting up a competition of humans against the very resources they need to survive. We are 'winning'. Yay.

Religions even compete for followers of the supposedly same god, even as they preach brotherly 'love' and bless the war fleets.

Whenever there is a disaster, neighbors join together to save lives, rebuild homes and shelter puppies. After things go back to 'normal', the workers generally go back to hating each other for petty trespasses and jealousies, let their dogs crap on each other's lawns, fight over political soundbites, etc.

Civilization as we know it makes people insane by making their lives insignificant to each other and only significant to whatever Aristocrat they serve (real or imaginary) for money and status.

Civilization dehumanizes humans for profit (and prophets).
