"In a society based on competition, you inevitably get fewer and fewer winners and more and more losers." -Wendell Berry

The ways we produce, sell and consume 'beauty' as a commodity in the process of using something natural (sex) as an unnatural phenomenon (prudishness turned to profit) doesn't help the development of human minds.

As you stand in that gilded church that represents colonialist power, think about how that beauty was used to impress peasants at home and abroad as resources were extracted from their lands and their lives.

Is that what we do still with beauty? We sell people hero worship (extreme makeover/supermodels) so they feel bad about themselves and buy more stuff.

"Teach a man to fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to sell fish with sex and the oceans are screwed."

Meanwhile, we can still enjoy beauty all around. Let's just not turn it into a sales pitch and a tourist trap.
