In the context of Godless Communism as the bad guy, the Genesis reading makes sense. In the context of humans making it to the Moon without divine intervention (or collision with God), it’s hi-freaking-larious.
While we banter about the place of creationist views, we have to acknowledge the achievements of religious structure. In other words, God is the marketing department for the town meeting (or the space project). A singular belief system is what gets people to work together. Synchronizing belief is powerful (as any mob will demonstrate). Today’s vast majority is synchronized with the belief in consumerism. It’s powerful. It’s also species-ending deadly. I submit that the Apollo program was the pinnacle of religious synchronicity, and what we see now is a lot of consumers who randomly choose to consume religion as just another purchase. None consider the roots and soils as their creator, so no successful religion can synchronize enough people to protect the Earth from our own systems of manipulative consumptionism. Blind belief in the Invisible Hand Job will be our end. There will be no intelligent apes to laugh at us.
