In the past, people had limited access to distractions and more dependence on direct interaction with others. Modern individuation has affected our emotional training, and individuation keeps people seeking individual solutions. The 'weakness' of an individual should maybe be examined as a change/weakness of society and it's behavior as well. As specialization grows, the need for a more active socialization effort grows.
