In the sense of "me, too", I think of the problem as the competition paradigm. The mindset that everything has to escalate starts with the mindset that everything is a fight or a contest. There are so many places we've let this go on that America has just lost all touch with response-able behavior, and left everything up to the Invisible Fist.
