It's (another) war that belongs to The Greatest Generation's accomplishments (chemical fertilizer, overpopulation, Consumerism, fanatical competition, blind anti-government policies, petro-colonialism), but they sometimes left a note of wisdom:
"There is no use now in recriminations as to who got us into the war, or how we are getting in. Give us common honesty. The unity, work, sacrifice and patriotic devotion will follow." -Farm Journal, Nov. 1941
