It's not like they all believe all the shit, either (if they are ever inclined to stop consuming and preaching long enough to have a thought). Just like church, they're terrified of the other bullies coming after them if they become 'soft' about any part of the colonizer/bully image they call "freedom." They didn't call it socialized nationalism for nothing.
