Joe Bageant (RIP) held the most honest picture of what the Democrats need to do:

They need to show up someplace that isn't a fundraiser. They can easily form a Working Poor party from scratch. A faction that stops whining about guns (hence, selling more guns) and fights for UBI and actual health (not insurance).
