Just a heads up. Not sure where you are, but my daughter got caught up in a rental scam in Colorado (the perpetrator actually ended up getting arrested in NJ because you really don't want to screw with her). Same kind of story, though: the apartment complex ownership changed, they said she would have to move out, then after two disappointments with other places falling through, it turns out she could stay after all.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Everyone who owns rentals seems to be absent or a crook, and some don't even own the places they are getting deposits for. They just know its empty and they get a key somehow so you can see it's real, then get you to give them a deposit with a fake lease and disappear.
