To go to the clinical description I favor: The purpose of Life is to make useful structure out of entropic decay (Schroedinger). This works best with diversity and generosity toward future possibilities. Imagination is humanity’s tool of usefulness that other life forms cannot do.

Human: A primate that creates a model of the universe inside its brain, and upon physical maturity, moves a model of its ‘self’ inside that model and avoids reality at all costs.

Evil: An action taken based on an unquestioned belief.

The universe is random. Music is structure. Ergo, making music is making life with our imagination. ;)

We always feel better when we create more usefulness than we consume in resources. We generally feel worse as consumers than as creators, probably because by being creative, we sense that we have added to our future (nurturing, growing, making and sharing). When we are not being useful or creative, we feel we must be forgetting to do something to prepare our next meal/child/quest/harvest.
