Mostly, we are failing to be useful to our places. The anthropocentric bullshit about 'caring' for other people and their needs and desires is all just that: bullshit. If humanity doesn't contribute more to its places than it consumes, then it doesn't matter what the beliefs and systems do to be 'fair' and 'compassionate' and to fantasize about because the bottom line is always the activity vs resources of a species in its environment.

Civilization created artificial environments that are based on extraction. Period.

Unless we create feedback mechanisms to reverse the very notion of what cities and people are for, then there is really no reason to 'fix' democracy or communism or any other '-ism' because the human animals will just consume more than they contribute until there is nothing to consume (Petri dish).

At some point, they consume each other to get to the top of the pile of dead bodies, call it "meritocracy" or "divine right" and try to start it all over again. This time may be different because the processes of modern manufacturing and food production are so destructive that humanity may actually kill itself off in this round.

While scientists babble about ecological "Tipping Points", the exponential self-reinforcing feedback of global competitive fanaticisms is blind to the holistic effects in play already. Everyone is waiting for some definitive Answer from Deep Thought to tell them what to do, but when they hear it, they don't believe it because the "If you're so smart, why ain't you rich?" syndrome of non-credible credentialism fighting against blind credentialism (money vs. academia) is being voted on by people who have neither and know nothing but consumptionism as a lifestyle.

Humans have lost the future because they are fucking useless to it.
