My first thought on this article was whether the farmers who wouldn’t sell to her were members of a conservative church. As a farmer in Wisconsin, I was always caught off guard by the random comments made by the ‘old guard’ farmers who were supposedly “Christians” and would have secret societies that didn’t include you if you weren’t a member of their clique. Sexism, racism and general jerkism is alive and well in American congregations. Heaven help me if my neighbors had ever found out I was an atheist…..but since I wasn’t born there, I was just invisible most of the time.
