Not so much hate (there is a lot, though), as fear and delusions. The religious and corporate right are just meaner and more stubborn than the secular, cooperative parts of our society. Sooner or later, nature’s bill comes due and the realities of resources collide with humanity’s imaginary beings. Meanwhile, the mean Mean writes the advertisement scripts and only the money votes.

May you live in interesting times. Remember that civilization is built when barbarians get tired of barbarism, and it decays when civilians fail to maintain it. We live in a time that deluded civilians sell dreams of being barbarians.
