Oh I know how to solve this, but it’s too cheap and logical for the new complex people. Just retrofit the S3 as a UAV . The weight savings of removing displays and crews can extend the range and capabilities. Airframe inspections and life can be extended because no risk to crew if one cracks once in a while. You can pretty much dump the ECM gear and save a ton or so, use the weight savings for engine upgrades and stealth paint layers. The S3 always seemed pretty stable and bulletproof as Navy planes go. If nothing else, keep the wings, engines and root structure and hang a more aerodynamic fuselage pod on it (you’re going to eliminate all of the hydraulics and control cables with electric servo cylinders) for the sensor gear package.
