Only because he wasn't self-promoting(he was only at the convention to nominate and support Grant, but his demeanor and intelligence won a day he didn't want). As presidents go, Garfield did more in a short time to shape the form of government than most. He set up the reform of civil servant appointments (the very thing Giteau shot him for not doing), and was arguably the most intelligent of the presidents, ever. Trump wants to go back to pre-Garfield appointment corruption (as if the income tax code isn't enough corruption already).

Yes, Garfield died of infection from doctors that never washed their hands.

We need a Garfield now more than ever against the field of selfish bullies and mediocre corporate sycophants. The DNC can't see this because elections are expensive when the media would rather chase advertising money with Spectacle than investigate real problems.
