Perhaps it’s just that the story of an intelligent person being miserable is usually about how they solved a problem that made them miserable. People want to solve problems. Satisfaction with solving problems isn’t the same as being ‘happy’. It’s more substantial and it lasts longer. Happiness, Hope and Love are all overrated. Fixing things is for real. I’d rather be right than happy as long as it doesn’t make someone unhappy (again, not the same as wrong): to a point. Sometimes, being right about the future path extrapolated from current data just isn’t worth it. Don’t worry. be happy. It won’t last.
